Sean did awesome!! He jumped right up into the seat and let the hygenist do her work. Counted teeth, cleaned them, fluoride treatment, and even tried an xray. He was having a blast! Couldn't quite do the xray - his mouth is still a little small for the film. He picked out a Diego toothbrush and got tons of goodies in his bag. The hygenists take a picture of their first visit -
Emma reacted the way I knew she would :) She was alright until she noticed the hygenist had a surgical mask around her neck. She has an intense fear of masks. So she was melting down big time. At the advice of the hygenist, I decided to leave the room to see if that helped. She said many kids that age do better without Mom in the room because there isn't the distraction. So I left. And sat in the waiting room with tears in my eyes listening to her scream Mommy for about 30 seconds. Then it was quiet. She let the hygenist count her teeth, clean them, and put the flouride treatment on. I heard her cry one more time, and that was only because the dentist came in to look at her teeth. The hygenist carried her out to me with a smile on her face. She loved the prize wall and picked out a couple of little things. She got a Cinderella toothbrush! Here is the picture of her - prior to the major meltdown!
No one had any cavities and the dentist said their teeth look great. Hopefully Emma will react differently in 6 months LOL!
